As the winner of the National Research Project Foundation, Penny received a four-year National Scholarship and National Aspiration Scholarship towards her Bachelor's degree from Central Conservatory of China. Coming to the United States, she continued her education to receive a Master's degree in Piano Performance and double degree in Chamber Music from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Penny then earned a doctoral degree in Piano Performance at Florida State University College of Music in 2018 on full scholarship. During her years at the university, she was selected as a member by the Honor Society of Music- Pi Kappa Lambda. Penny, born in China, is an active performer of solo and chamber music, both nationally and abroad. She was invited to perform a piano duet at the opening concert of the 18th Biennial Festival of New Music at FSU New Music Festival. She also performed solo pieces and chamber music at Beijing Modern Music Festival and Beijing Music Festival, to name a few. She has performed as soloist at highly esteemed and well known venues in NYC and Detroit, MI, including Carnegie Hall. To her credit, Penny has won various piano competitions, including second prize of Michigan Music Teachers' Association Young Artist Piano Competition; first prize of "Sejung Cup" Piano Competition; and fist prize of "Steinway Cup" Piano Competition of China. Performing, however, is not her only passion. Penny is also a skilled instructor, and began teaching in 2010. She is a member of the Music Teachers National Association, and teaches both privately and group piano classes at a university.
