Melissa Joy (MJ) Britton is an elite vocalist and educator with a profound academic and professional background. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance from Delta State University and a Master’s Degree from Austin Peay State University. Currently, MJ is pursuing her Doctorate at the University of Memphis, with a specialized focus on Opera Stage Direction, Vocal Pedagogy, and Vocology (the science of voice habilitation).
Since 2015, MJ has built a versatile career as both a performer and a pedagogue. Her teaching experience includes serving on the faculty at Tennessee State University, where she instructed students in voice, singers' diction, and music appreciation. Her artistic leadership extends to the director's chair, having made her directorial debut with "Twisted Ranch" and serving as the Musical Director for "Snoopy the Musical."
MJ is deeply embedded in the Memphis arts community, serving as the Director of the Memphis Chapter of The American Caroling Company. She is an outspoken and passionate advocate for her students, offering expert instruction in Classical, Musical Theater, Pop, Jazz, and Blues styles. Whether preparing a student for the opera stage or helping a beginner master the piano, MJ brings a world-class, scientific approach to vocal health and musical artistry.
