Michael is a native New Yorker and a distinguished figure in the NYC musical landscape. He was the Valedictorian of the famed High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan before graduating Summa cum Laude from the State University of New York at Purchase in 1987 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music (Flute). He subsequently attended SUNY at Stony Brook, where he earned both his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) in flute performance, sponsored by a prestigious federal Javits Fellowship.
An elite performer and composer, Michael's artistry spans Classical, Jazz, and Rock. He has graced the stage of Carnegie Hall and performed at countless prestigious concert halls, clubs, and venues throughout the metropolitan area. His professional breadth allows him to offer expert instruction in nearly any style, making him a unique asset to students who want to explore diverse musical paths.
Teaching since 1987, Michael has served on the faculties of the Bronx Conservatory of Music and the Preparatory Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College. He is known for his outgoing and engaging personality, which fosters an inspiring and highly productive learning environment. Whether teaching the flute or the recorder, Michael provides a master-level perspective that balances technical excellence with creative artistry for students of all ages.
Michael provides lessons at his professional studio in New York City, as well as high-definition online sessions. He also travels for in-home lessons throughout the NYC area.
