A born and bred New Yorker, John's musical journey began with the award-winning jazz big band at Martin Van Buren High School in Queens, NY. From there, he went on to study performance and education at Five Towns College and Long Island University (Brooklyn Center) on a full scholarship. This elite academic training provided him with a sophisticated understanding of both classical theory and contemporary application.
John is a highly sought-after guitarist, producer, composer, and arranger who has been a staple of the music industry since the late 1990s. His professional career is highlighted by worldwide performances, including tours across Europe and the prestigious opportunity to perform before the Pope in Bologna. His experience working alongside world-renowned musicians informs his teaching, giving students practical, "real-world" insights into performance and production.
Teaching since 1995, John has a diverse background that includes over a decade of instruction in elementary schools across Brooklyn and the Bronx. Currently, he is a featured instructor in a prominent Brooklyn jazz grant program. John offers master-level instruction in Guitar, Piano, and Keyboard, specializing in both traditional reading and play-by-ear techniques. His expertise spans Classical, Jazz, Pop, Rock, R&B, and Gospel, providing a comprehensive and inspiring environment for students of all levels.
John provides instruction from his professional studio environment and high-definition online sessions. He also travels for in-home lessons throughout the Fishkill and surrounding Hudson Valley area. He focuses on building a bridge between technical proficiency and creative improvisation.
