Gary graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI in 1974
with a BA degree in Science. He started playing sax in 6th grade band and continued through college. He taught himself how to play by ear as a child and performed anywhere he could. During High School he joined the a capella choir and started performing sax and lead vocalist in local bands. While at the university, he studied privately with the jazz ensemble director while continuing to perform live with local bands. Gary has been teaching since 2010 and the styles he offers are rock, smooth jazz, R&B and pop. He teaches sax, voice, trumpet, guitar, piano, flute and clarinet. After graduation he toured with several bands over a ten year period. Upon moving back to Charlotte (where he's from originally), he continues to perform with local bands.
