Michael received his Bachelors in Music from Belmont University in Nashville, TN in 2000 for Commercial Music where he studied with world renowned drummer, Chester Thompson. He was then awarded a fellowship to study with world famous jazz drummer, Danny Gottlieb, at the University of South Florida where he received a Masters in Music with an emphasis in Jazz Performance. Michael is a well-known and in demand performer and educator. He has performed in many orchestras and bands, including the Nashville Jazz Orchestra, Greenland and many more. Following grad school, Michael and Danny co-authored their first book with Mel Bay, The Drummer's Workbook for Control and Creativity. Michael is the editor of Mel Bay's Percussion Sessions, a webzine devoted to percussion education. Michael has been teaching since 1997, and his styles include rock, jazz, Latin, big band, county, funk, and musicals, among other styles.
