Charles attended the Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, PA for 3 yeas towards a Linguistics/Biology degree. While at the college, he participated in their ensembles and pedagogy classes. He also did his thesis research on vocal psychoacoustics. He collaborated with a music major at the college to arrange vocals as part of an eclectic music act in South Africa. Charles has studied private piano for about 9 years, including music theory, writing, and arranging. Along with teaching, Charles is also a performer, and is currently a singer and arranger for a jazz band. He has an extreme vocal range, and along with offering traditional voice, he also teaches Balkan style melisma, Carnatic style melisma, yodeling, and the African diasporic elements of sideways yodeling and umngqokolo (overtone singing), and is versed in natural remedies for vocal issues. He's been teaching since 2010, and offers all styles, from pop, jazz, R&B folk, country, rock, hard rock/metal, electronic, Arabic, Mesopotamian, Balkan, Flamenco, traditional and modern Southern African Styles, and Avant Garde.
